Restaurants:
These are close by restaurants that I like and are in walking distance:
Kifaya's Kitchen:
When ordering, make sure to ask for the home made bread. Make sure to try the sauces on the rice.
George's Kitchen:
This place gets packed for brunches, so I suggest going at different times. The food is awesome and cheap. I love the sloppy plate with is a sort of chili cheese fries, with a couple of beef patties, bell peppers and a side of macaroni salad. It also comes with a soup. God, I love that plate!
Der Braumeister:
I like everything here. Every time, I like to order something different. The place is very nice. I give it VERY GOOD, because I got spoiled by Das Schnitzel Haus. They have a great selection of beer as well. It offer street seating, but i prefer the inside.
Lucita's:
I live in SF, so when it comes to Mexican food I automatically compare it to what I am used to, and Lucita is not up there. But it is in walking distance and it is all right food. If you want my favorite taco then is a small drive to La Plaza in Lakewood.
Assad Bakery:
Whatever you get from behind the counter is great. It is a bakery/market/deli. The food is awesome and the people working there are even better. If you are staying at the house for a few days, I suggest you stop by and get some hummus, olives and pita bread. What a snack to have while enjoying some tv shows. They also make falafel sandwiches and such.
Sahara:
Good and easy place to have a lunch or dinner. It is usually pretty empty, so it is good to have a conversation while having food.
Cousine du Cambodge: I THINK IT WENT BANKRUPT
You should ask Greg about this restaurant, as I never tried it. Greg also tried many more places than i did, so he might have other suggestions.

Bars:
There are a few bars in walking distance. The best bar around is in the kitchen of the apartment, so not sure why you would look for something else, but .....
Cooley Lounge:
A small neighborhood bar. Drinks are dirt cheap and so is everything in the room. The place smells like cigarette smoke, not sure if people still smokes in it or if it is soaked in the furnitures over time. Last time i got myself two ginger ales + rum and a beer for 6$. The people inside where all in their late 40s or higher. I chatted with the people and they were fun and friendly.
I cannot find a yelp page for it. This is by far the closest bar, hence a favorite.
Lion On Lorain:
I did not try this place yet, but it looks nice from the yelp reviews.
The Vibe:
Local gay bar.
Pride of Erin:
DARTS! that is where you go to play darts. And have a pint or two.
Casey Jones Tavern:
They have Karaoke on fri nights. It is pretty close to George's Kitchen. A bit of a walk from the house.
There are more bars on Lorain. No fancy or trendy places though, for those other parts of towns might be better.
